OBITUARY

OBITUARY
Michael Howard Lewis
Aug. 15, 1949 - Sep. 15, 2015

Michael Howard Lewis, son of Howard and Hazel Lewis, husband, father, brother, uncle, and constant helping hand, is loved as acutely as he is missed. Always eager to help others, Michael sought out and valued close-knit communities wherever he was. From Guam to Oklahoma, Michael enjoyed being a part of something larger than himself. He made friends everywhere he went, with his offbeat sense of humor and appreciation for the kindness of others. Michael loved flying, sailing, travelling, eating good food, listening to live music, playing with kids and dogs -- but above all, he loved his family and friends. Michael spoke fondly of his childhood in Burbank, CA. It was there that he found his passion for flying, which eventually led him to Continental Airlines and Guam. Michael loved the community and looseness of island life and spent his free time on the beach and sailing. After his contract in Guam Operations was up, Michael transferred to Hawaii, where he got to know Kathie. Just a week after they started dating, Michael began applying for jobs that would take him to the mainland, where Kathie lived. Ten days after he got a job in Los Angeles, Michael and Kathie were married.

The next 34 years would see Michael in three different states -- Oklahoma, California, and finally, Nevada. In each state he found lifelong friends, whether it was in his neighborhood in Broken Arrow, Thursday breakfasts at Nini’s in Burlingame, or at LifePoint Church in Minden, where he loved working Guest Central and being in fellowship with his small group. He also treasured the community at Century 21 Clark Properties, where he was a realtor for the past nine years. Michael was known for his good attitude, his example of perseverance, and his will to live. He was baptized in Lake Tahoe and had a quiet and steady faith. He loved seeing the colors change in the Genoa wetlands and watching the sunsets and sunrises. He will be remembered for having a spirit even more full than he would pack the dishwasher.

Michael continues to live in the hearts of his wife, Kathie, his daughter, Erin, his son-in-law, Chris, and the rest of the Lewis, Hughes, Carpenter, and Churchill families. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2016, at LifePoint Church, 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Carson Tahoe Health Foundation for either the sponsor of a stay at the Merriner Cottages or their Cancer Resource Center -- both in support of the comfort and care of cancer patients.

OCTOBER 11, 2016 UPDATE
From Donna Luce Neitman...
Only 6 months to our Reunion Cruise and we are starting to hear from classmates that are booked their interest in different excursions while on the cruise. Currently San Francisco is the only port right now that is showing excursions. Princess has informed us that they are still negotiating contracts for the other ports for tours.

As we get more information we will post different ideas for you to consider.

Some of the questions we’ve heard are what to do while in San Francisco. The ship is within easy walking distance to Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, cable cars and Embarcadero. You can take a ferry from Fisherman’s Wharf or the Embarcadero to Sausalito. Muir Woods is another great way to spend the day. There are a number of tours available through Princess, however, you can also book direct and save some money.

If you are interested in Alcatraz the best site we have found to go to is www.alcatrazcruises.com. You cannot book with them until 90 days before our cruise, and it is refundable if you cancel 72 hours in advance. Cost is $33.50 currently for seniors.

If you choose to book excursions through Princess go to www.princess.com, log into your account and book excursions before sailing. Don’t wait to book on board because your excursion may be sold out and if it is available it will be about $20.00 more.

Princess excursions can also be arranged through our travel agent Kathryn Kisperash. kathrynkiperash@aaawa.com or call 208-666-5701I know for some of you first time cruisers it can be a little confusing but Kathryn is there to get you through it

Stay tuned for more information!

For those of you who are still thinking of joining us for the Reunion Cruise it is not to late!
Call Kathryn Kiperash 208-666-5701 or contact her at kathrynkiperash@aaawa.com
Mention the BHS Reunion Cruise.

When "The Fearsome Foursome" (Rick Nebeker, Mike Gould, Bob Maiwurm, and Jerry Clark) showed up on my front porch for my Last Day of School Pool Party ... aka how to make JW notice me ... my 6 foot tall mother about fainted! And then before I could complete my goal, Bob maneuvered them all off to the beach. These guys are all so relatively young. Heavy sigh.

Bob and Jerry Clark always hung together. The said that Judy Rayl Smith and I looked exactly alike. They couldn't tell us apart. Those horn rimmed glasses didn't work. They looked more alike than we did. Fond memories...Rest in peace.
