Update from Dave Thomson

Yesterday we were having email problems but all is well now. So here is the latest from Dave, the BHS Centennial chairman...

Hi Cathy - it works. It has been crazy around
here regarding the Centennial, but all good. The
website now has almost 1100 registered alumni and
staff, and we've worked out (hopefully) the main
issues/problems that we couldn't anticipate
before it launched. I am feverishly working on the
book which has to go to print by mid-June. I plan
to contact you soon concerning some of your
recollections. Also I now see several stories taking
shape, and will soon post needs for memories
concerning those events on the website. We just got
the estimates on the museum displays from a
graphic design company, so things are happening. Keep
those alumni coming to the website! Thank you
for all of your help and support. I hope you are
well and will talk with you soon.

Regards,
Dave

"My team The Gray Hares got 1st place!" - Shari

Got this update email from Shari Deuel Nicholls - WOW!
(click here to read more about Shari and her brother, Danny BHS '64)

Hi Cathy,

My team The Gray Hares got 1st place! We flew to Arizona Feb. 28, rented 2 vans in Phoenix and then drove to Wickenburg. That's where the Del Sol 182 mile relay race started.

There's 12 runners on a team but we came w/ 11 (due to a death in the family of 1 runner). Our start time was 11 am Fri. Each runner runs 3 legs. Mine were 4.8 mile (mod) at 11:40am, 6.5 (hard) 11:50 pm and 7 miles (hard) 8:50 am.

The 1st runner starts out and then passes the baton to the next. We sleep when we can , I got 3-1/2 hrs. It was quite warm during the day and perfect temps for running at night. On my last leg which was 1-1/2 miles downhill and the rest uphill, I was having a really hard time. I went with a fever, chills and bad cough. 4 guys passed me and I thought if I could just keep them in sight I'd be ok. Pretty soon I spotted the guy in the blue shirt. Roadkill! As soon as I got next to him he said, "Hey Pink". (I was wearing my hot fuchia-pink running suit). I said, "Hey Blue" (to his shirt color). Then he said he needed help finishing this run. We had about 5 k to go.

Then he said his name was Danny!!

My throat closed and the tears flowed. He didn't know that I was also having trouble. We both had PAINFULL hamstrings. He promised to let me go through the "shoot" first to finish. We encouraged each other to the end. Boy! There's nothing like a sweaty hug!

The relay finished in Mesa. We finished in 29 hours.

We also were voted by the other teams as the "Homecoming Team"- their favorite!! Vans are decorated and I took 36 (gray hares) rabbits, zip-tied them all over the vans. Also made 6' long ears that I duct-taped to the roof. Quite a sight!

Now I'm recovering from 2-1/2 wks on the road. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to do my scheduled 60 mi (Santa Monica mtns) and 85 mi ride.

Take care!

Thanks for all your work!

Shari

Class Competition

Hey CP:

I attended the Sr. Bulldog luncheon on Monday, March 3rd. Linda Mustion, Don 'Ripley' Ray and I were there from the Class of 67. They discussed the Centennial Celebration that is coming up on us so quickly!

There is a class competition going on and our class isn't doing so well. Looks like Class of '65 is in the lead! As of Wednesday, March 5th, we have a total of 24 classmates who have signed up thus far.

Come on classmates! It doesn't take that long to sign up! Just be sure to check the box at the bottom if you want your email to show up. This is a good way to keep in touch and our email addresses current for our 45th Reunion!

Please help us spread the word about this website by contacting fellow alumni and encouraging them to register. The top classes are listed below by decades. Contact fellow alumni and see if your class can take the lead! (click here to see how your class is doing).

Update on BHS Centennial Committee Mtg

Thanks to Alan for the following report! When I asked can anyone go to these meetings, Alan replied, "Yes, everyone is welcome at the committee meetings. Hopefully if they want to attend the meeting, they will want to help in the Centennial planning!"

Hi Cathy,

The BHS Centennial Committee had it's monthly meeting this past Wednesday, February 27. We meet at the school in Dave Thomson's classroom. There were about twenty committee members there this time, aged from current students at BHS to Herb Vincent from the class of '46. Linda Mustion was there from the '67 class.

Quite a bit of the meeting was spent discussing the Centennial Book, which will be sold during the four days of the Centennial in September. It will be hardback, about 136 pages, 100 on the history of BHS, and the other 36 will be advertisements. It's been discussed since the meeting that alumni who place an ad could have a picture of all the alumni in their family, with each person's name and graduation year from BHS. The ads will cost $150. for "Business Card" size ad; $225. for an eighth of a page ad; $425. for a quarter page ad; $800. for a half page ad; and $1,500. for a full page ad. The estimated cost per book is $30.00. So, if any of the class of '67 are business owners and would like to place an ad let us know and we will get the information to you. Non-business owners are also welcome to place a greeting for the prices listed above.

The Centennial Foundation is also accepting donations. Recognized donations begin at $100. and go on up from there to the highest level with individual recogniton of $10,000. (Also with individual recognition are the $1,000., $2,500., and $5,000. donations.) More can be learned about the Foundation on the Centennial website at www.burbankhigh100.com

All of the class of '67 are urged to register on the Centennial website. It only takes a couple of minutes to register. You may include an email address if you wish, which makes it easier for your friends and classmates to contact you. Also, fill out an "interview" on the website if you can. This tells what and who your favorite classes and teachers were, special memories during your years at BHS, and what world events you remember happening during your high school years. Use the same website address as listed above.

Our next committee meeting will be Wednesday, March 19, at 7:00 PM at the school.
