Powerhouse Choir to be on Dancing With the Stars Tuesday, Oct 26, 2010

BHS '67 alumni, Deanna Lloyd Jennings, sent the following email about her son, Brendan Jennings, Burroughs Choir Director of the Powerhouse - VERY EXCITING, DEANNA!!!

Brendan's choir on Dancing with the Stars

Dear Family and Friends,

It is now official, because they put out a press release. The John Burroughs High School "Powerhouse" choir
will be on Dancing with the Stars, tomorrow night, Tues. Oct 26 9-10:00 PM (pacific time) -the reveal show.

I understand that they will only be doing the second half of the number with the Macy's stars beginning the performance. So don't blink or you'll miss it. This is "rock and roll" week. The couples dance tonight-Monday.

Just thought you might want to know. They are very excited about the opportunity to be on TV. And I'm such a proud Mom. :-)

Take care, Deanna Jennings

Found this just now which tells a bit more:
"This week's 'School of Rock' themed Macy's Stars of Dance performance will feature all-star kid musicians from national School of Rock and one of the best showchoirs in the country, The Powerhouse Choir from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California. The number will be choreographed by Travis Wall. The Powerhouse Choir has performed opposite the cast of 'Glee' on the Oprah Winfrey Show and was the school that inspired the hit fox television series. In addition, they've performed at numerous national and regional events, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the Gala Opening of the Resnick Pavilion, 'The Unmasking', opposite Christina Aguilera and The Canadian Tenors, the Season 2 'Glee' Cast Premier Party at Paramount Studios and the 1st Annual PFLAG L.A. Event at the London Hotel. They've received the following awards and accolades: 2009 Grand Champions of FAME National Showchoir Cup in NYC; 2008 Grand Champions of FAME Chicago National Showchoir Competition; they were featured on 'Gleeful: The Real Show Choirs of America', a British documentary about competitive showchoirs; and they performed in concert with Foreigner at the Gibson Amphitheater and the Citizen's Bank Arena. The School of Rock is a nationally-acclaimed music education program whose mission is to inspire kids to rock on stage and in life. With 62 locations in 23 states and more new ones coming soon, students of all levels learn to play rock music in a unique and interactive way at the hands of professional musicians, developing both their music skills and confidence. The School of Rock All Stars are comprised of the best students from across the country and play over 60 dates a year at theaters, festivals and the nation's top music venues."
